This lovely old sandstone house is thought to have been built by Benedictine monks in the seventeenth century, although records show that there was a house on this spot two hundred years earlier.

The views alone make Casa Ribechi, a neat garden apartment attached to an old Marchigiani farmhouse, well worth the stay.

Set in a remote woodland spot high in the Apennines, Chignoni, an eighteenth-century borgo, or hamlet, is a veritable oasis of peace and tranquility.

Set on a small hill just outside San Quirico d’Orcia, Il Colle combines the peace and tranquillity of the countryside with easy access to the amenities of a small town.

The apartment takes its name from the splendid Romanesque church directly opposite, whose ornate portals can be admired through the three lunette windows in the living room.

This delightful apartment, refurbished in 2002, is set into the medieval walls surrounding San Quirico d’Orcia.

This cosy house is perched on the edge of Rocca D’Orcia, one of the most photogenic medieval villages in southern Tuscany.

Compared to the rustic farmhouses which lend the countryside of southern Tuscany much of its charm, the red-brick building of Terra Rossa stands out immediately for the authority and symmetry of its Florentine design.
