When the Tower House at Roccatederighi was restored by its architect owner, the entire interior, including huge wooden beams and an enormous Tuscan fireplace, had to be wheeled in along the narrow cobbled streets of the little medieval town. The result of these efforts is spectacular. Clinging to the side of the rocky outcrop on which the town sits, the Tower House commands breathtaking views across the Maremman plain as far as the Argentario peninsula and the sea. The views are best enjoyed from the roof balcony but the grand, airy sitting room on the third floor has huge picture windows with the same vista, as does the master bedroom a floor lower. Inside, the house is a triumph of tasteful restoration, with beautiful touches such as hand-painted Florentine tiles in one bathroom and antique furniture throughout. Roccatederighi is a living town, with shops, cafes and restaurants to cater for daily needs. The lovely medieval city of Siena is under an hour's drive away. Distances:
