This handsome pale brick villa, dating
from 1879, is reached along a short avenue of cypress trees. Through the conifers and olive trees at the front
of the villa, by the swimming pool, there are views across the rolling hills and olive
groves to the Ascoli mountains and, in the
distance, the outline of Gran Sasso. Closer to home the area abounds in both natural beauty and historical interest. Less than 1km away are the ruins of a Roman theatre, now used for performances during July and August, and there are further roman finds in the museum at Falerone. There are a number of small towns and villages nearby worth exploring, such as Servigliano with its symmetrical old centre, and Fermo, with a fine art gallery and good museums. The Monti Sibillini National Park is a short drive away. Villa LAcacia has been beautifully restored to create spacious, stylish rooms combining elements of rustic tradition with modern comforts. The huge living room has a terracotta floor and beamed ceiling and is divided by a central brick pier with a fireplace. Its lemon walls are enlivened by colourful prints of Venice, the owners home town. French windows lead out onto the loggia or portico area ideal for meals on hot summer days and a brick arch leads into the dining room and the well-equipped kitchen. A marble staircase curves up to the landing and the four bedrooms, which are simply and pleasingly designed with pastel colours and bamboo or dark wood furnishings. The two south-facing bedrooms have stunning panoramic views. The English-speaking owner can book tickets for the Macerata Opera season. Distances:
