Il Canto di Casale is  a well-equipped, comfortable villa in a very interesting unexplored corner of Tuscany, right up on the border with Emilia Romagna.   The villa stands on a hillside in the hamlet of Casale, a tightly knit run of narrow streets in the centre of which the villa enjoys surprising space, with terraced gardens, a swimming pool, a loggia housing a natural spring, and separate annexe and gym. The front of the house and the gardens command sweeping views of the surrounding Apennine peaks and passes and even wider views are available at night, thanks to the owner’s telescope being available for the use of his guests.  

The villa sleeps up to nine people, six in the three bedrooms of the main house and a further three in the small apartment which forms an annexe to it. Attached to the villa proper is a small private chapel. Guests also have the use of a large enclosed garden, a swimming pool, a small gym with exercise machines and a loggia containing a fountain fed by a natural spring, a wood-fired oven (for pizza making), and a seating area for outside dining.  

The village of Casale goes back to the Middle Ages and stands near the Monte Falterona, where the Arno river has it source.  The village offers a fine starting point for long treks and walks in the surrounding beech and chestnut woods, while places of interest to visit in the close vicinity are Giotto’s birthplace, the village of Vicchio, which has a museum dedicated to the artist, and Frascole, the site of important Etruscan excavations. And of course Florence itself is within easy reach, either by car – an hour’s journey – or by train from nearby Dicomano, a ten-minute drive from the villa. From here a regular train service provides a perfect solution for those wanting to visit the great Renaissance city but stay in a country villa enjoying fresh clean air and rural surroundings.

Supper is provided on arrival for guests staying a week or more.
