La Canigiana has an enviable position in peaceful countryside just a stone's throw from Florence. From the garden guests can make out Brunelleschi's famous cathedral dome rising above the Florentine rooftops in the valley below. A day out to see the city's art treasures couldn't be easier but the friendly couple who run this 18 hectacre organic farm are happy to share their love and knowledge of Tuscany to point guests in the direction of some less familiar, but equally rewarding, destinations. Last year they converted the eighteenth century hay barn into two delightful apartments. The ground floor, La Rimessa, has a brick vaulted ceiling in the kitchen/dining room which leads out on to a large sun-trap terrace with extensive views. The first floor Il Fienile has a private shady patio and each apartment has its own characterful bedroom, terracotta tiled floors and beamed ceilings. La Canigiana also has nine hectacres of woodland suitable for walks, a children's playground, and a barbecue area. Distances:
